ST. CHARLES COUNTY R-V SCHOOL DISTRICT - NOW RECERTIFIED
On December 30, 1999, we were pleased to learn from the St. Charles County Collector that the St. Charles County R-V School District had revised its tax levy to properly account for the property tax rollback. The rollback of sales tax brought the district in compliance with the Hancock limitation. Once the tax rates are set, the County Clerk sends the Department of Revenue (DOR) a list of actual tax levies that will be assessed for the current year. In reconciling our annual tax certification report prior to its release we check the tax rate reported in our records with the report from DOR. The information submitted to this office and the DOR incorrectly listed $4.02 as the rate the district was going to levy for 1999, rather than the $3.74 actually levied. In this instance, had the correct information been submitted to the state by either the political subdivision or the County Clerk on a timely basis, this confusion could have been avoided. Our records have been updated to reflect the actual amount levied.
