HEMATITE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT - NOW RECERTIFIED

On January 3, 2000, we learned from the Jefferson County Clerk, that the Hematite Fire Protection District passed a ballot increasing the tax levy of the district. On January 5, 2000, a supplemental cover letter was attached to the Review of 1999 Property Taxes Rates report that documented the district's compliance with the Hancock Amendment. The documentation of this election was not submitted to our office by the County Clerk on a timely basis for us to update our records. Had the correct information been submitted by the County Clerk on a timely basis, this confusion could have been avoided. Based on the faxed copy of the ballot and certification of election results approving the tax increase, we have updated our records to reflect the actual amount that was levied.
