Nicole Galloway sworn in as Missouri State Auditor

Galloway will focus on independent, professional office to hold government accountable

04/27/2015

Nicole Galloway took the oath of office today to become Missouri’s 38th State Auditor. Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary R. Russell swore in Galloway, a certified public account and certified fraud examiner.

“Serving as State Auditor means upholding a sacred trust to each of you – that you will have a strong, independent advocate in government fighting for you every day,” Galloway said. “This office – this professional staff – will be the watchdog that holds government accountable.”

Galloway said she would begin to assess the risk cyber-crime has on all Missourians.

“People can access data from around the globe, we must ensure criminals near and far do not access your personal data in your children’s schools or within state or local governments,” Galloway said. “Government must be held accountable to keep that private data safe and secure.”

Galloway is committed to bringing private-sector best practices to work for Missourians.

“In the private sector, stakeholders expect auditors to review companies for fraud and waste – I have done that with Fortune 500 companies,” Galloway said. “My administration will bring certified public accounting and certified fraud examiner experience to bear from the very top. Missourians will see the benefit.”

Galloway shared her gratitude with John Watson for his work following the tragic death of Auditor Tom Schweich and Media Director Spence Jackson.

“John Watson was the consummate professional in his time as Auditor, and we will continue the mission of Auditor Schweich and Mr. Jackson in helping citizens clearly understand the work of this office.” Galloway said. “The experienced professionals of this office have done exceptional work for Missouri citizens throughout these difficult months, and I thank them.”
