Galloway releases Ray County audit report

County earns "fair" performance rating

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has released the audit report for Ray County. The report includes information collected for the 2014 audit period and lists the county's overall performance rating as "fair."

"The report highlights concerns within county government's operations and financial management, but also offers recommendations for improvement," Galloway said. "I'm hopeful the county will use this information to strengthen and improve government accountability for the resources used on behalf of Ray County residents."

Audit staff noted findings in five areas. The audit found the need to address the county's financial condition, evaluate spending, and monitor the county's budget to ensure efficient use of financial resources. The audit also found weaknesses in receipting and disbursement procedures in the county clerk's office, sheriff's office, prosecuting attorney's office, and recorder of deeds' office.

Prior to this report, Ray County's most recent audit was released in September 2011 with a performance rating of "poor."
