Senate leadership receives final packet of six completed applications for selection of nonpartisan state demographer

12/20/2019

The State Auditor's Office today delivered to Senate leadership the final packet containing six completed applications for the position of nonpartisan state demographer. The packet also included a cover letter from the State Auditor.

Under Article III, Section 3 of the Missouri Constitution, the Senate majority and minority leaders will select the nonpartisan state demographer. The position was created by the passage of Amendment 1 in November 2018, which was approved by 62% of Missouri voters.

The six completed applications are from Damon Braidlow, Donald B. Cripe, Sara Hartman, Bryan Kinworthy, R. Zane Price and Jason J. Ross. Applications were accepted during a 90-day period from Sept. 5 through Dec. 4.

The State Auditor's Office informed the six finalists that the packet was submitted to Senate leadership. Pursuant to 127.020 RSMo, each applicant is required to file a financial interest statement no later than 14 days from today.  Financial interest statements are to be filed with both the Missouri Ethics Commission and the Secretary of State.

To ensure transparency, the State Auditor's Office posted all submitted applications and correspondence with applicants here.

The nonpartisan state demographer is an employee of the state of Missouri and is not an employee of the State Auditor's Office. Submission of the packet to Senate leadership concludes the State Auditor's involvement in the application process.
