Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has released the Taney County audit follow-up report.
The Taney County audit was issued in July 2014 and earned an overall performance rating of "poor." The follow-up report, which does not include an overall rating, highlights the steps the county has taken to implement audit recommendations and notes areas where concerns remain.
"The residents of Taney County deserve accountability and sound financial management practices from their local government officials," Galloway said. "Although some of the findings from the audit have been addressed, continued improvement will provide more efficient government operations for citizens."
Continued areas of concern include the county's use of legal services without a competitive proposal process, the need to fully account for both capital improvement and general sales taxes to ensure the dollars are spent in accordance with the law, and the need for better budget estimates for various funds. Discussions with various county officials show ongoing efforts to fully implement recommendations.
For follow-up reporting purposes, audit findings are prioritized and selected recommendations are evaluated and ranked as implemented, in progress, partially implemented or not implemented.
In the Taney County follow-up report, 23 recommendations were selected for evaluation. At the time of the follow-up review, ten recommendations were implemented, eight recommendations were in progress, and five recommendations were partially implemented.
The follow-up review for Taney County was primarily conducted in March and April 2015. The information is deemed accurate through that time. A link to the complete follow-up report is available here.
