Galloway announces audit of the City of Wellston

Citizens requested audit through petition process

08/25/2015

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has announced an audit of the city of Wellston in St. Louis County.

"The residents of Wellston have requested this audit and my staff will conduct a thorough review of local government operations, procedures and adherence to state law," Galloway said. "I look forward to providing the audit findings and recommendations to Wellston residents."

Municipal audits may be initiated through a petition process or by request of the governor. The Wellston audit was initiated through a petition, which allows citizens to request an audit of their local government by submitting the required number of registered voter signatures. For the City of Wellston, 437 valid signatures were required. Petitioners submitted more than 500 signatures and the St. Louis County Board of Election Commissioners certified the required number of signatures as valid.

In addition to the city audit, Auditor Galloway's office is currently conducting an audit of the 21st Judicial Circuit, City of Wellston Municipal Court.

Individuals who would like to provide information for consideration during the audit may contact the State Auditor's Office at moaudit@auditor.mo.gov or 800-347-8597.
