Auditor Galloway releases Warren County audit report

County earns 'good' performance rating, but cybersecurity concerns remain

11/09/2015

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has released an audit of the government of Warren County. The audit raised concerns with issues related to cybersecurity.

Auditors found the county had not established adequate procedures to protect against cybersecurity risks by ensuring county employees have separate user IDs and passwords. Further, it was discovered that passwords are not periodically changed, even when there is employee turnover.

“Requiring, updating and protecting passwords should be common practice for any government entity in order to protect citizen and community data,” Auditor Galloway said. “Despite a similar finding in an audit four years ago, the county has not taken these most basic steps to protect citizen information. County officials have made a commitment to take action and it is our hope that they follow through.”

This audit report gives the program a performance rating of "good." The complete report is available here.
