Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has released audit reports for five local contract license offices located in the cities of Carthage, Kirksville, Monroe City, St. Charles and Warrenton.
"Although the license offices audited range in size and location, there are several similarities in the types of findings identified," Galloway said. "In addition to these five license offices correcting errors, it is my hope other license offices across the state will use this information to review their own practices and procedures to make improvements, especially in the most common areas noted in these reports."
The most common findings related to maintaining documentation and approval for void transactions, reconciling deposits to receipts, and accuracy of sales tax transactions, with findings for those areas identified in at least three offices each.
Performance ratings of "good" were issued to the Carthage, Kirksville, St. Charles and Warrenton offices. A performance rating of "fair" was issued to the Monroe City office.
