Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has announced her office has begun a regularly scheduled audit of the government of Stoddard County, located in southeast Missouri. The county's most recent audit was released in December 2013, and received an overall performance rating of good.
"This audit will review county operations and practices to find any areas where Stoddard County can make improvements to better serve the public," Auditor Galloway said. "I encourage residents who have information that may be helpful to contact our Whistleblower Hotline."
In the 2013 review, auditors recommended improvements to accounting practices in the county clerk's office and increased oversight in the prosecuting attorney's office. A previous review also recommended increased internal controls in the sheriff's office after an employee was charged with theft of funds.
