Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has released a regularly scheduled audit of Ste. Genevieve County. The county received an overall performance rating of good.
"Citizens deserve a government that operates as efficiently, accurately and responsibly as possible," Auditor Galloway said. "This report highlights areas where government operations in Ste. Genevieve County can improve and better serve taxpayers."
The audit identified an error that resulted in additional $3,241 being collected in penalties for delinquent property tax payments. The error has been corrected and a refund has been issued to those affected. The report recommends a periodic review of the process to avoid future miscalculations.
The audit also found the county commission did not meet all requirements related to a required public hearing on the property tax rate.
