Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway today released a follow-up review of the Small Business Regulatory Fairness Board, which was created by law to serve as an advocate for small businesses. The progress report found the board continues to lack support to fulfill its purpose and have multiple vacancies.
"I support making the regulatory process less burdensome on small businesses, and business owners deserve a voice in that process," Auditor Galloway said. "As the legislature continues to pass new laws that impact small businesses, a mechanism needs to be in place to ensure there is a check on regulatory burdens. Right now, that isn't happening."
The progress report found the Small Business Regulatory Fairness Board still does not have necessary support to fulfill its role. In addition to inadequate staffing, there continues to be long-term board vacancies and lapsed terms.
Auditor Galloway's initial review of the board was released May 2016. The Missouri Boards and Commissions Task Force issued a report on Oct. 31 of this year recommending its elimination.
