Auditor Galloway completes closeout audit of Attorney General's office

10/19/2017

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has released a closeout audit of the Missouri Attorney General's Office. The audit covers finances and procedures for the previous administration, up to the transition of the new official into office.

The audit includes recommendations related to the development and implementation of a new case management system. Planning for the new comprehensive system began in 2013. The audit found the project lacked a formal budget and did not adequately track all the costs related the new system.

The report also includes multiple repeat issues from prior year audits, including a lack of written policies relating to conflicts of interest and personal leave. The audit also identifies concerns with employee travel expenses and inadequate documentation for the selection of and rates paid to outside counsel and expert witnesses.

The State Auditor conducts closeout audits of statewide offices to assist in transitions and ensure that newly-elected officeholders are aware of areas for improvement.

A complete copy of the report, which received an overall rating of fair, is online here.
