Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway today announced her office will conduct audits of the governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general and treasurer. The State Auditor's Office performs closeout audits of statewide offices to assist in transitions and ensure that incoming officials are aware of areas for improvement.
"As State Auditor, it's my job to hold all levels of government accountable for their use of taxpayer dollars," Auditor Galloway said. "I look forward to sharing our findings for each of these offices with the public once the audits are completed next year."
Auditors will begin work this summer and return in early 2017 to finish reviewing office operations and financial activity through the last day of the statewide elected officials' terms.
Individuals with information for consideration during the course of any of these audits may contact the State Auditor's confidential hotline at 1-800-347-8597 or email moaudit@auditor.mo.gov.
Each of these offices has also received at least one standard performance audit within the past three years. The governor's office received a rating of "fair" in its most recent audit, released in April 2015. The lieutenant governor's office received an overall performance rating of "good" in its 2013 audit. An audit of the secretary of state was released in January 2016 and received a "good" rating. The attorney general's office was last audited in March 2015 and received a rating of "fair." The treasurer's office received a rating of "excellent" in an audit released in April of this year.
