Auditor Galloway announces citizen-requested audit of Southeast Missouri city of Winona

State Auditor encourages anyone with information to contact Whistleblower Hotline

03/24/2017

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway announced her office has started work on an audit of the city of Winona, located in Shannon County. Residents of the Southeast Missouri city requested the audit through the petition process.

"As we've shown in past audits across the state, when citizens are engaged, the process works to uncover concerns and shine a light on local government operations," Auditor Galloway said. "The residents of the city of Winona have asked for an independent review, and I encourage anyone with information that may be useful in the course of this audit to contact my Whistleblower Hotline."

The city of Winona petition audit required 202 signatures, which were certified by the Shannon County Clerk. This is the first state audit for the city, which has a population of about 1300 people and covers a little less than four square miles.

Individuals who would like to provide information for consideration may contact the State Auditor's Whistleblower Hotline at moaudit@auditor.mo.gov or by calling 800-347-8597. Concerns may also be submitted anonymously online at auditor.mo.gov/hotline.
