Auditor Galloway announces audit of Linn Creek municipal court

Review will include court efficiencies, compliance with state law

03/17/2016

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway announced today that her office has begun an audit of the Linn Creek municipal division of the 26th Judicial Circuit, located in Camden County. The audit is part of the office's Municipal Courts Initiative, designed to evaluate court processes and compliance with state law and court rules.

"Citizens' most frequent interaction with government happens at the local level," Auditor Galloway said. "Often, the public's perception of government and the justice system is linked to their experiences with local courts. After we've completed our review of Linn Creek's court operations, we'll share our findings and recommendations to help the court operate more transparently and efficiently."

Galloway's office is currently conducting municipal courts audits throughout the state as part of the Municipal Courts Initiative, which expands the standard court audit process. In addition to reviewing financial transactions, accounting practices, and compliance with court rules and state law, auditors also review statistical information, tickets and other penalties to identify improper activities or practices that may impair impartiality or damage the court's credibility with citizens.

Individuals who would like to provide information for consideration in any ongoing audit may contact the State Auditor's Office at moaudit@auditor.mo.gov or 800-347-8597.
