Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has announced her office has started a regularly scheduled audit of Bollinger County, located in southeast Missouri. The county received an overall performance rating of fair during its most recent audit in December of 2013.
"This audit will be an independent review of the processes, procedures and controls in Bollinger County to make sure government is efficiently serving citizens," Auditor Galloway said. "I encourage anyone with information that might be helpful to reach out to my Whistleblower Hotline."
Recommendations in the 2013 audit included increased oversight in the sheriff's office, improvements to the county's payroll and personnel policies, and changes to sales tax levies that exceeded the legal maximum rate.
