Audit of City of St. Louis Board of Public Service underway

Auditors to review processes and procedures for department responsible for publics works projects, infrastructure improvements

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (July 17, 2018) Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway today said her office has begun audit work on the City of St. Louis Board of Public Service. This report will be part of the comprehensive audit of the City of St. Louis that is currently underway.

The Board of Public Service is responsible for planning and construction of public works for the City of St. Louis. Staff work with contractors and other city agencies to complete construction on projects including streets, sidewalks, parks, correctional and court facilities, and other public buildings and structures. The Board of Public Service also manages the city's Equipment Services Division, which is responsible for the city's vehicle fleet, and the Facilities Management Division, which maintains and repairs city-owned properties.

Also underway are an audit of the Supply Division, audit of economic incentives and a status update of the concerns raised during the last comprehensive audit of St. Louis in 2010. The comprehensive audit of the City of St. Louis is expected to include more than 30 reports to be released over a two-year period.

Auditor Galloway said her office is approaching the audit of the city as a citizen-initiated audit and has pledged to engage citizens in the process. Auditor Galloway continues to meet with elected officials and community leaders to discuss the audit.
