Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway says citizens are engaged in government and they're contacting her office to share what they can to help government run better.
"Government exists to serve its people, not the other way around. Missourians want a transparent government and public officials that are held accountable for their actions," Auditor Galloway said. "It's my job to be that independent watchdog, and I want people to know this hotline is available when they see inappropriate activity or suspect government wrongdoing at any level."
Information received through the Whistleblower Hotline may be incorporated in ongoing or future audits. In 2015 the State Auditor's Office received 100 tips through the Whistleblower Hotline. In 2016 that number nearly doubled to 195, and included phone calls and emails. This year a new feature has been added to the website to allow users to submit information anonymously though an online submission form.
"The Whistleblower Hotline is available to anyone with concerns related to government operations or the actions of government officials at any level. It is critical that citizens and government employees have an outlet to act as whistleblowers, providing information or submitting concerns without fear of retribution," Auditor Galloway said.
Individuals may contact the State Auditor's Whistleblower Hotline at 800-347-8597. You can also submit your concerns anonymously online at auditor.mo.gov/hotline or by emailing moaudit@auditor.mo.gov.
