The office of State Auditor Nicole Galloway provided the following statement today following a hearing by the House Special Committee on Government Oversight:
"Audits are based on evidence and facts. Audit findings result from sufficient evidence and facts found during the course of audit work and in accordance with auditing standards. It is simply not true that there was any political bias or impropriety during the audit process.
"At today's committee hearing, the Missouri State Auditor's Office made available the entirety of the professional audit team involved in the audit in question. Collectively, they have nearly 90 years of audit experience, working for both Republican and Democratic auditors going back to Auditor Margaret Kelly.
"Missouri law prevents the Auditor's Office from discussing the work or content of an ongoing audit. The Missouri State Auditor's Office respects the committee's time, and staff spoke for about 90 minutes about the audit process.
"Additionally, the committee was provided with official documentation that clearly indicates David Kirby had no role in the audit process. Employees of the Auditor's Office never discussed the audit with him, nor did Mr. Kirby discuss it with them.
"The Auditor's Office looks forward to presenting the findings of the audit when it becomes public in the coming weeks."
