Nicole R. Galloway, CPA
38th Missouri State Auditor

Nicole R. Galloway is the 38th State Auditor of Missouri. She is a certified public accountant and certified fraud examiner. She took the oath of office on April 27, 2015.

As State Auditor, Nicole brings her expertise to work for all Missourians each day to be their strong, independent watchdog holding government accountable.

Nicole’s office is focused on bringing private-sector best practices to state government, including a focus on cybersecurity. As a mother of two young boys, she understands the benefits and risks of changing technology, and the responsibility governments at all levels owe their citizens to protect private data. As an experienced professional private-sector auditor, she will always shine a light when government fails to safeguard the information families expect to be kept safe and secure.

Prior to becoming State Auditor, Nicole was Treasurer of Boone County for four years. She ran for election in 2012, winning unopposed. Nicole put her experience to use as Treasurer to manage a $100 million investment portfolio and nearly $200 million in annual cash flows, protect a top-tier bond rating and put financial strength to use to save taxpayers more than $4.6 million.

Nicole has worked tirelessly to ensure citizens know how their tax dollars are managed. She led the implementation of investment and debt management policies that are models helping governments throughout Missouri protect taxpayers and make critical community investments.

Prior to entering public service, Nicole was a corporate auditor at Shelter Insurance’s national headquarters in Columbia. She began her career in public accounting at Brown Smith Wallace, a public accounting firm, headquartered in Creve Coeur. There she audited Fortune 500 companies domestically and internationally, along with insurance companies throughout the country. She also worked as an actuarial analyst with Allstate Insurance.

A lifelong Missourian, Nicole has committed herself to improving her state. She was Secretary/Treasurer of the Missouri Technology Corporation, investing in entrepreneurs here in Missouri to help create jobs. Additionally, she served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Missouri County Employees’ Retirement Fund, protecting the retirement benefits of nearly 16,000 participants in 111 counties. While on the retirement fund’s board, she led the effort to ensure equal protection for the retirement benefits of county employees in same-sex marriages.

An active member of her local community, Nicole has served on the board of the Heart of Missouri United Way, Columbia Interfaith Resource Center’s Finance Committee and as a youth mentor for Discovering Options in St. Louis. She is currently a member of her local Rotary.

Nicole received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri and degrees in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Nicole was raised in the St. Louis region. She now lives in Columbia with her husband, Jon, and sons, William and Benjamin.
